LinkedIn Text Formatter
Bold, italicize and bullet your LinkedIn post, then see exactly where “…see more” cuts it off before you publish. Free, no sign-up, and your text never leaves your browser.
The fold is approximate: about 3 lines, or roughly 140 characters on mobile and 210 on desktop. LinkedIn changes it by device and app version.
How to use the LinkedIn text formatter
Write or paste your post into the editor. Your draft is saved in this browser automatically.
Select the words you want to style and click Bold, Italic, Underline or Strikethrough. Click the same button again to undo it. Ctrl/Cmd + B, I and U work too.
Select one or more lines and click a list button to add bullets, arrows, checkmarks or numbers. Click it again to remove them.
Check the preview. Switch between mobile and desktop to see what readers get before “…see more”. If your point isn’t visible there, move it up.
Click “Copy formatted text” and paste it straight into LinkedIn. The styling comes with it.
Formatting that helps (and formatting that hurts)
Bold one line, not a paragraph
Bold works when it marks the sentence a skimmer must not miss. A fully bold post reads as shouting and hides your point.
Put the point above the fold
Most readers decide from the first two or three lines. Lead with the problem your buyer already has, then explain.
Keep keywords plain
Styled letters are special Unicode symbols. LinkedIn search and screen readers may not read them as normal words, so leave names and key terms unstyled.
Short paragraphs, real white space
One to three sentences per paragraph is easier to read on a phone. Lists work best for steps or options, not for every thought.

Questions
How do I make text bold on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn’s post editor has no bold button. Formatters like this one swap your letters for Unicode characters that look bold. Select the words above, click Bold, copy the text and paste it into LinkedIn.
Will bold or italic text hurt my reach?
We haven’t seen evidence that LinkedIn penalizes styled text. The real costs are readability and search: styled letters may not show up in LinkedIn search, and screen readers can read them out letter by letter. Use them sparingly.
Why does my formatted text show as boxes on some phones?
A few older devices and apps don’t have fonts for these Unicode characters, so they show empty boxes. Current iPhone, Android and desktop browsers display them correctly.
Where does LinkedIn cut a post off with “see more”?
Usually after about three lines. That’s roughly 140 characters on mobile and 210 on desktop, but line breaks count as lines, and LinkedIn adjusts it by device. The preview above shows both views.
Can I remove the formatting later?
Yes. Paste the text back in, select it (or select nothing to clear everything) and click Clear formatting. Styled letters turn back into normal ones.
Is this tool free? Do you store my text?
It’s free with no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser. Your draft is saved only in this browser so you don’t lose it, and nothing is sent to our servers.
